Working Principle of Water Cooled Scroll Chiller

Step-by-step operation:

  • Compressor:

    • Scroll compressor compresses refrigerant gas (low-pressure) to high pressure and temperature.

    Condenser (Shell & Tube):

    • Heat is removed from the refrigerant by water circulation, causing it to condense into a liquid.

    Expansion Valve (TXV/Capillary):

    • Reduces the pressure and temperature of the liquid refrigerant.
    • Evaporator (SS Coil / PHE / Shell & Tube):
    • Chilled water absorbs heat, and the refrigerant evaporates to start the cycle again.

Troubleshooting Tips

Symptom

  • Chiller won’t start
  • insufficient cooling
  • high pressure trip
  • flow switch error
  • freezing

Possible Cause

  • voltage or phase error
  • Dirty condenser / low gas
  • condenser water flow issue
  • Air lock or blockage
  • Setpoint too low or low flow

Solution

  • Check input power , wiring
  • Clean , recharge refrigerant
  • check pump and flow meter
  • Bleed air , clean filters
  • Adjust setpoint or check pump
